Stepping Into Adolescence

Dr. Lonnie CartonDr. Lonnie Carton, a family therapist and educational consultant, serves as chief information officer for WARM2KIDS, a web-based family and school support system.  She was the director of Family Support Services for Boston Partners in Education, and currently serves as its consultant.  She hosted the nationally syndicated feature "Take a Minute for the Family" on the CBS-Radio network and is author of NO is a Love Word! Dr. Carton served as senior editor of "Education Today", a nationally-distributed publication for families of school-aged children.

Having helped hundreds of families resolve minor issues and major crises during her career, Dr. Carton’s Stepping Into Adolescence focuses on how parents can successfully communicate with children during the critical middle-school years.  Dr. Carton encourages parents and children alike to take advantage of the opportunities the middle-school years provide to successfully cross the bridge from childhood to adolescence.

This presentation leaves a lasting impression on parents by helping them understand the doubts, fears and emotional upheaval their children face during these critical years.  Stepping Into Adolescence addresses the variety of parent/child issues that can emerge during the middle-school years with wit, humor and practical advice.  Dr. Carton not only entertains, but motivates parents to broaden their understanding of why the challenges they face exist, and how they can reinforce the bond between themselves and their children despite those challenges.  The goal is to ensure that parents and children realize that they are not Stepping Into Adolescence alone, but together.
