BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network
Anheuser-Busch is a leading supporter of this initiative,
which focuses on peer education and promoting positive peer
pressure. BACCHUS, founded in 1975, is the largest student
organization in higher education today, and the oldest dedicated
to peer prevention of alcohol abuse.
Check Into A Winning Life
Bob Anastas, the founder and former executive director of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), delivers a powerful presentation to high-school and college students. Motivational in spirit, the program offers parents and students a timely message on how young people can build key live skill and make responsible decisions about the challenges they face. This program is also available on video.
College Talk
This program is designed to help parents continue communicating
openly and honestly with their children on the subject of
drinking as students prepare for college and begin a life
on their own. College
Talk was developed by an advisory panel of authorities
in the fields of education, family therapy, student health
and wellness, alcohol treatment and social norms marketing
and through conversations with parents and students.
Here is an evaluation of the College Talk program by outside sources.

Courage to Care
Carolyn Cornelison uses her knowledge, personal experiences
and personality to take a very realistic look at college drinking,
taking responsibility, recognizing abuse and helping those
with alcohol and drug-related problems in her program “Courage
to Care.” Her presentation for college students will
make them laugh and sometimes cry as she shares her college
experiences as both a sorority member and athlete. Carolyn
has traveled to hundreds of campuses and been a part of numerous
Greek education, athletic department, and general campus health
programs.
Designated Driver Programs
To help fight drunk driving, Anheuser-Busch wholesalers and
local retailers in college communities across the country
work together to promote the use of designated drivers. The
concept employs common sense: when a group of friends visits
a bar or restaurant, they select one individual who refrains
from drinking on that occasion. In exchange for being named
the designated driver, the individual typically receives free
or reduced-price food and non-alcohol beverages. Wholesalers
may provide a variety of support for these programs, including
such things as promotional materials at bars and restaurants
or funding to help offset the costs of university-supported
designated driver initiatives.
National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness
Week (NCAAW)
Anheuser-Busch is also a leading supporter of this nationwide
initiative held in October that provides schools with a launching
ground for year-round prevention efforts. This campaign helps
promote responsible attitudes among university and college
students across the United States.
NCAA Choices
The National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Choices
grant-program is funded by a $2.75 million gift from Anheuser-Busch
to support campus alcohol abuse prevention programs. It has
been identified as a model alcohol education initiative in
the NCAA Life Skills program.
Social Norms Promotional Materials
Anheuser-Busch offers a variety of materials that promote
the social norms message that the majority of students are
making responsible choices regarding alcohol. These materials
include posters, table tents, paper cubes, backpacks, mouse
pads, pens and more.
Tips for the University
This program for colleges, universities and student organizations
provides information and intervention strategies for participants
to address peers who may be abusing alcohol or consuming it
illegally.
