St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis area Budweiser Distributors and Sportservice Announce Good Sport “Designated Driver of the Season”
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 10) – The St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis area Budweiser distributors and Sportservice will recognize one lucky fan – Linda Morris from Troy, Ill. – as the 2008 Good Sport “Designated Driver of the Season” just prior to tonight’s 7 p.m. game against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium. Linda was selected from more than 30,000 Cardinals fans who signed up to be a designated driver during the season. As the winner, she will receive a Good Sport prize package that includes throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the game, an autographed jersey and much more.
“One of our goals as an organization is to provide Cardinals fans with a safe, family-friendly experience at Busch Stadium,” said Joe Abernathy, vice president of Stadium Operations, St. Louis Cardinals. “We congratulate Linda for being chosen as the Designated Driver of the Season and all of our fans for being winners by signing up to be a designated driver and promoting responsibility all season long.”
“We once again were pleased to partner with the St. Louis Cardinals and Sportservice this year to encourage Cardinals fans to drink responsibly and make a designated driver part of their game plan through the Good Sport program. We thank Linda and all of the designated drivers who participated throughout the season for promoting responsibility and helping prevent drunk driving," said Carol Clark, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Good Sport is a comprehensive action plan designed to promote a positive crowd environment by reminding fans to act responsibly, respect the rights of others and use a designated driver. Good Sport awards a “Designated Driver of the Game” with a team-logo shirt during each home game throughout the season, in addition to drawing one “Designated Driver of the Season.” The program is supported by Anheuser-Busch and its St. Louis-area distributors Lohr Distributing Co., Grey Eagle Distributors, Krey Distributing Co., N.W. Herrell Distributing, and Illinois Distributing Co.
For nearly three decades, Anheuser-Busch has led the alcohol beverage industry in the fight against alcohol abuse. The company and its distributors have invested more than $750 million in dozens of community-based programs and national advertising campaigns to promote responsible drinking and help prevent underage drinking and drunk driving. In 2008, for the fifth year in a row, the company ranked first in the beverage industry for social responsibility in FORTUNE magazine’s “America’s Most Admired Companies” and “Global Most Admired Companies” lists.
